This story was birthed from what I call joyful chaos. Many parents of toddlers can relate. My personal journey of how I got here was inspired by hope, faith, family, and life's experiences.

I believe every child’s story begins long before they make an entrance into the world. For me, the inspiration behind Skylar Is Promoted to Big Sister came from a deeply personal season of waiting, hoping, and trusting in something greater than myself.

Before becoming a parent, my journey to motherhood was not without challenges. There was a season when the dream of being a parent felt uncertain, and the path forward required patience, resilience, and faith. When our daughter finally got welcomed into our arms,  indeed she was a beautiful reminder that some blessings are worth waiting for.

She was our answered prayer, a precious gift who filled our hearts with a joy we had long hoped for. Not too long after the excitement of welcoming her came another quiet question many families can relate to: Would she ever have a sibling?

As time passed, the echoes of that question became louder. With the realities that come with growing older as a parent, there were moments of uncertainty. Yet, through every season, faith remained an anchor. The belief that God’s promises unfold in His perfect timing kept hope alive.

And then, what once felt impossible became possible.
The dream of giving our daughter a sibling came true.
It was a joyful miracle, one that brought excitement, gratitude, and a new chapter for our family. But as beautiful as new beginnings can be, they also come with adjustments.

Our daughter was excited about becoming a big sister. She wanted to help, love, and be part of this new adventure. But like many children experiencing a major family change, she also had moments of uncertainty. Suddenly, the attention she once received was shared. The rhythms of our home changed. There were new responsibilities, new routines, and a tiny new person who needed extra care and attention.

While our family celebrated this new blessing, we also recognized that our daughter had her own emotions to process. Becoming a big sister is not just about welcoming a baby, it is about helping a child understand that love doesn't diminish when a family grows. Love expands.

During this period we learned that children need reassurance during transitions. They need to know their feelings matter. They need reminders that they are still seen, valued, and deeply loved. Adults and pets sometimes have a hard time coping with change, so why are surprised that children need time to adjust. 

Through intentional moments together, open conversations, and small gestures of connection, we worked to help our daughter embrace her new role while honoring her feelings along the way. We celebrated her as a big sister, but we also continued to celebrate her simply for being her.

This journey reminded me that family growth is not always about the big moments—it is about the small, intentional choices made every day. A hug. A conversation. A moment of attention. A reminder: “You are loved just as much as before" or "You are not being replaced"

I also learned the importance of community. Growing a family takes more than one person. The encouragement, support, and love from family and friends can make challenging seasons feel lighter and joyful seasons even sweeter. Those experiences became the heart behind "Skylar Is Promoted to Big Sister"

While the story is not a direct retelling of our personal journey, it carries the emotions that many families experience when welcoming a new sibling—the excitement, the uncertainty, the adjustment, and ultimately the beautiful discovery that there is always room for more love.

I have often heard that the only constant thing about life is "Change". My hope is that this story reminds children and families everywhere that change can be both exciting and challenging, and that every child deserves reassurance as they discover their new place in a growing family. Because sometimes the greatest promotion a child can receive is not a new title, but a bigger heart!
